Modernisation

A high failure rate, an uncomfortable ride and high energy consumption all point to modernisation. We offer solutions at three levels, from component retrofit to full replacement.

Over 15 years old

A lift's economic life is typically 20 to 25 years. After year 15 component failures accelerate and spare parts become harder to source.

Increasing failure frequency

A lift that stops several times a year exceeds its maintenance budget. When repair cost approaches renewal cost, the decision is clear.

High energy bill

Old lifts with geared machines can consume close to twice the energy of their gearless synchronous equivalents.

Uncomfortable ride

Jerky starts, a step at the landing and noise all indicate that the control system and drive need renewal.

A red or yellow label

A red label at periodic inspection requires the lift to be taken out of service; a yellow label requires shortcomings to be resolved.

Changed usage needs

If the building function has changed or floors have been added, existing capacity and speed may fall short; a traffic analysis reveals this.

Your needs determine the scope

After the survey we share which level is needed and why. Proposing a wider scope than necessary is not our business.

Component Retrofit

Individual components

Individual components such as the door operator, control panels, car interior or drive unit are renewed. This is the shortest and lowest-budget option, and the lift usually returns to service within a few days.

When?

Structure and shaft are sound but specific components have reached end of life

  • Car and landing buttons
  • Car interior and lighting
  • Door operator and photocell
  • Ropes and suspension

Full Replacement

All equipment

The existing equipment is fully removed and a new lift installed in its place. Car size, capacity, speed and stop count can be redefined; a machine room lift can be converted to a machine room-less platform, returning the freed space to the building.

When?

The lift is over 25 years old, or capacity and speed needs have changed

  • A new lift (car, drive, control)
  • Shaft adaptation and door frames
  • Option to change capacity and speed
  • Conversion to a machine room-less platform
  • A new CE file and warranty

Process

How a modernisation proceeds

Condition assessment

The existing equipment is examined, energy consumption is measured, and fault history and periodic inspection reports are reviewed.

Level and scope

Which of the three levels is required is reported with reasoning, and alternatives are presented with a cost and duration comparison.

Implementation plan

In multi-lift buildings work proceeds in sequence, planned so that at least one lift always stays in service.

Commissioning

Testing, an updated CE file, a new warranty certificate and handover ready for periodic inspection.
